The Kanchenjunga region is one of the most remote and beautiful trekking areas in Nepal that remain untouched and well-preserved. Kangchenjunga, is the third highest mountain in the world, and lies partly in Nepal and partly in Sikkim, India. In Tibetan language the name itself means “The Five Treasures of Snow”, owing to the five major peaks in the region. It covers an area of 2035 sq. km. in Taplejung district, and lies in the northeast corner of Nepal. There lies Tamur River in the west, Lhonak Chu and Jongsang La in the north , and Teesta River in the east. In this eastern Himalayan setting, glacial streams cut through high ridges creating remote and steep valleys where traditional farming practices are a way of life.

Trekking to Kanchenjunga Region
Right after arriving in Taplejung, the trek goes through captivating green, crop growing villages, and immaculate forests. The climate varies on this trek from hot sweltering forests to cold icy glaciers. Trekking in this area is an adventure that is full of enthusiasm, excitement and above all, an unforgettable lifetime experience.
The trekking starts by approaching the north side of Kanchenjunga. Tent peak, Nepal peak, Cross peak and then at Base Camp Kanchenjunga itself can be viewed. Then the trek returns to Ghunsa and then crosses the Mirgin La pass over to the south side of Kanchenjunga. The landscape in the Kanchenjunga trekking is a tough terrain and hence demands high fitness level. For this trip you need sturdy boots, a good sleeping bag, warm waterproof clothing, , day pack camera, sunscreen and a sun hat.
