Makalu Region

The Makalu region, a pristine landscape nestled in the high Himalayas of eastern Nepal, lies between Everest to the west and Kanchenjunga to the east. It is one of the most remote areas in Nepal. This region offers a combination of rich cultural heritage, unmatched beauty, and biological diversity. Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Project protect this region. Makalu region is home to mount Makalu which is the fifth highest mountain in the world with the height of 8,485 meters (27,838 ft). It is located in the Mahalangur Himalayas 19 km southeast of Mount Everest. Barun Valley provides stunning contrasts, where high waterfalls cascade into deep gorges. Similarly, ragged rocks rise from lush green forests, and colorful flowers bloom beneath white snow peaks.

Highlights of Makalu Region

At the base of Makalu, there lies Himalayan glacier valley Makalu-Barun Valley. The valley has treasured some of the last remaining pristine forests and alpine meadows of Nepal. This unique landscape shelters some of the last pristine mountain ecosystems on Earth. Arun valley is home to rare species of various birds which are found only in Nepal. The highest point of this trek is Salpa Bhanjyang and also we can visit Hindu holy call Lake Salpa holy Lake (3,414m). One can see the fantastic views of the south face of Makalu, as well as Everest and Lhotse.You can see the incredible diversity of natural beauty and culture. The rich natural paradise includes beautiful mountains, pristine forests.

The major jewels of this region are Mount Makalu (8463m), the world’s fifth highest peak, Chamlang Himal and Barun Valley. Due to the wide range of climatic and altitudinal variation in the Makalu Barun area. The area offers a remarkable and diverse habitat for a rich variety of flora and fauna.
